It is that time of year again.
I am organizing a Runners and Riders Club weekend trip (23rd-24th Feb) to Afan in south Wales (http://www.mbwales.com/afan_forest/index.htm). It’s some of the best mountain biking you will get in and around the UK. I can vouch for this first hand. There are trails suitable for all types of ability and there is a mtb centre and café at the trail head. The routes feature quite a lot in the mountain bike magazines and are always rated very highly. The trails are ride able in all weather conditions, those of you that went on the previous club trips to Afan / Coed-y-Brenin and enjoyed it, should not miss this one!
The club will pay for the accommodation which will be a Bed and Breakfast located 10 mins from the trail head this includes a cooked breakfast, but all other meals will be paid for by the individual.
The cost of the fuel will be £10.00 per person.
So far we have 2 cars are travelling down, but further vehicles may be needed (depending on numbers)
Mountain bikes can be hired from Skyline cycles, and there is also a well equipped bike shop at the trail head.
For those of you who cannot get weekend passes why not come down for just the day (either Sat or Sun) the club will help towards your fuel bill if you can group together and share transport. If you are coming down for the day then please could you let me know so that we wait for you.
Non club members / partners are more than welcome to come along however but the club cannot offer any subsidy.
If you want any more information or to book a place on this trip then feel free to contact me by Friday the 15th February at the latest.
The will be 2 qualified Trails Cycle leaders on this trip. So if this is the first time you have done something like this, don’t worry you will be in safe hands.

The City of Salisbury Athletic and Running Club are holding a 10 mile road race on Sunday 6th May 2007 at 11:00 am. This event was formally the Fire Brigade 10-miler. The route is a scenic one to the north of Salisbury following the banks of the river Avon. It gently undulates through the Woodford Valley with fine views of the Cathedral Spire on the return leg. Entry is £7 for all affiliated Club members.
This is our local running club’s main yearly event, so it would be great if we could support it as much as possible. If anyone can’t run it but would like to help marshal the event on the day, then please contact the Club. Entry forms can be accessed at here.

Mike Goddard will be back to coach us on Monday 12th March. For those of you who didn’t make it last night, but are interested in what we did:
Warm up
Drills - short distance exercises to mobilise your muscles and learn good technique
Interval training - Measured increases in pace over 6 stages (punctuated by Mike’s whistle!) x 3 followed by longer distance at faster speed x 2
Cool down
Last night’s session was good fun and very useful. We’ve decided to invite Mike back next week because he’s unavailable for the following 3 weeks - so if you would like to come along to try out the session please put the date in your diary now!

The AGM will be held on 12th March in the Museum meeting room (next to the visitor’s reception) at 12:00. We will have a quick review of the year’s activities and then review the committee. Any proposals for committee members in advance please! We also need to consider events/activities for the forthcoming year so that we can ensure our bid for funding to the regional CSSC committee will cover all requirements. We will also soon (hopefully) be able to bid to Dstl Club for additional funding.

You have no doubt been missing the club coaching sessions during the dark Winter months, and I’m sorry to say that Phil Morris will no longer be able to coach us. However, Mike Goddard will be coming along on Monday 5th March at 17:15 to take an outdoor fitness session for those of you who are interested in improving your fitness. We’ll be meeting at the Pavilion beside the football pitches and the session will be similar to the format that Phil used. Showers and changing facilities available in the Pavilion (more…)
